Matt Kuchar's Monday finish at the 2024 Wyndham Championship has been a cause of great debate over the last few days. The Wyndham Championship was riddled with problems which included a day's postponement due to tropical storm Debby.

On the last day, the golfers ended up playing 36 holes in order to avoid a Monday finish. However, Matt Kuchar decided that he would not finish his final hole on Sunday due to darkness and would opt to complete it on Monday instead. He received criticism from those online, with Fore Play Podcast's Riggs being one of them.

Speaking about the incident, Riggs said:

"One of my favorite events of the year might be the Matt Kuchar decision to just finish on Monday, in one of the most illogical moves in history. I was trying to piece it together. Like there has to be an actual legitimate reason that one could be like, 'okay I kind of get why he did that'. There doesn't appear to be one at all."

Kuchar also gave another reason other than darkness. He said that he was trying to 'set an example' for Max Greyserman, who was playing alongside him and in contetion to win the tournament. Greyserman and Chad Ramey, the other two golfers in the group, decided to finish off their rounds the same day, ignoring Kuchar's advise.

Riggs went on to criticise Kuchar for calling all the support and security staff out for another day of unnecessary work.

"Its a ridiculous operation to put on a PGA Tour event. From security, staffers, volunteers, everything. You're making dozens of people at minimum have to come back the next day when instead that night they could've been out there celebrating," he added. [1:02 onward]

Kuchar ended up finishing T12 at the 2024 Wyndham Championship.

Matt Kuchar's 12th place finish at the Wyndham Championship meant that he would be missing out on the FedEx Cup playoffs. This is the first time that Kuchar has failed to make the playoffs since its inception in 2007. He needed a win in order to make the cut.
