Robert MacIntyre's success at the RBC Canadian Open and Genesis Scottish Open have translated into financial rewards for him. Based on his victories alone, MacIntyre earned a total of $3,267,000. The Scotsman used this money to pay off his parent's mortgage
Ahead of his participation in The Open Championship 2024, Robert MacIntyre was asked a question about his financial success. MacIntyre was asked how he felt about paying the mortgage of his parents. The 2024 Genesis Scottish Open winner said that money will not change him.
Robert MacIntyre said:
"Money is not going to change me. I'm not going to go and do anything daft or buy anything flashy. Because if you do that in no time someone will drag you down properly. But it's great to obviously get the financial gain and be able to do certain things. But I'm a big believer everything happens for a reason. A lot's going on with my family in the last little while, work, everything that's going on at home." [19:53]
Robert MacIntyre also said family is everything. He added that if he can help his family and friends, then that's what he will do. He noted that he is just doing his job on the course and is lucky that it pays well.
The Scotsman concluded by saying he tries to enjoy as much as he can and help people.
English golfer warns Robert MacIntyre about the pressures of playing at home
At The Open Championship 2024, Robert MacIntyre will be playing in front of his home crowd at the Royal Troon. Naturally, this will be a big advantage for the Scot and all the other Scottish golfers who will be competing at the 152nd Open Championship.
However, English golfer Tommy Fleetwood recently reminded MacIntyre and other Scotsmen about the challenges of playing in front of a home crowd. In a press conference ahead of The Open Championship 2024, Fleetwood spoke about the pressures of playing in front of home:
"I think being at home brings its own pressures. You put it on yourself as much as anything you want to do well so badly. And it does that a bit more to you no matter what anybody says when it's that close to home, and that it has such an emotional connection to you, it does mean that bit more." [15:08]
However, after highlighting the pressures of playing at home, Fleetwood noted that these moments are some of the best times in a golfer's life too.
