Min Woo Lee made it to the international team of the Presidents Cup, which is set to take place at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada from September 24 to 29. Alongside Min Woo Lee, other golfers playing in the international team are Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, Sungjae Im, Tom Kim, Jason Day, Mackenzie Hughes, and Si Woo Kim to name a few.
Eight of these twelve International Team golfers, including Min Woo Lee, Jason Day, Tom Kim, and Mackenzie Hughes made introduction boards with the headline:
“2024 International Team”
The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of "Presidents Cup International Team" shared photos of these golfers holding their introduction boards, which contained their names, Presidents Cup appearances, the country they're representing, and what they bring to the team.
While golfers like Jason Day and Hughes wrote that they bring ‘heat’ and ‘fire’ to the team, Lee decided to boast about his ball speed:
“I bring 190 MPH base speed to the team,” Lee wrote.
Lee's ball speed is more than his teammate Adam Scott's ball speed, which is 169.4 mph.
Notably, according to data from "Worldmetrics.Org", the average ball speed of PGA tour players is approximately 170mph.
International captain Mike Weir expresses confidence in Min Woo Lee for the final line-up
Min Woo Lee was one of the captain's picks for the Presidents Cup. Despite this being Lee's maiden Presidents Cup appearance, Weir expressed confidence in the World No. 42 and said (via "golf.wa"):
“As one of the most popular players on the PGA Tour, Min Woo is going to be an incredible addition to the International Team…He is one of the best drivers of the golf ball and I can’t wait to let him cook at the Presidents Cup,” Mike Weir said.
After the selection, Lee talked about the 'flair' he hoped to bring to the team and also expressed his excitement at playing in front of his fans.
“What I can bring to the International Team is flair and hopefully some good golf…Being on the International Team is very special and obviously being the home side, it’ll be massive to play (well) in front of the fans,” Min Woo Lee said.
Lee joins Adam Scott and Jason Day as the third Australian golfer to be included in Weir’s 12-man squad.
Before the Presidents Cup, Min Woo Lee also represented Australia at the Olympic Games in Paris and he landed at T22 at Le Golf National. His scores over the four rounds were 76, 65, 68, and 68, and his total score was 7-under 277.
