Brian Harman was one of six golfers picked by Jim Furyk for the U.S. Presidents Cup Team. Besides Harman, other golfers who made the team as captain's picks are Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Keegan Bradley, Russell Henley, and Max Homa.
Recently, on the Talk of the Tour podcast's new episode, Harman was asked about his reaction to the US captain's call. Harman replied that he didn't allow himself to have many thoughts. Rather, as he received the good news, it was a relief for him.
“I didn't really let myself think about it a whole lot. I felt like I had a pretty good case, but, you know, I would have totally understood one way or the other. But he calls, gives me the good news,t it's a sense of relief, but then it's a sense of, all right, well, now it's time to really get to work,” Harman said (1:25).
Brian Harman was also asked how he felt about being picked, given there were many options available to Furyk. The golfer said,
“Well, I've been on the other side of a fair amount of those phone calls, so that was certainly a nice change of pace. But Jim's an absolute legend. It's going to be a total honor to play for him. I've always respected Jim. Him and I have spent a bunch of time together. I've bounced a lot of ideas off of him over the years, and he's been nothing but a total gentleman. and very forthcoming with all sorts of information.
"I'm excited to play for Jim. I think Jim's gonna be an incredible captain” (1:54).
Out of the 12 members of the US Team for the Presidents Cup, the six automatic qualifiers are Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, and Sahith Theegala.
A look at Brian Harman’s 2024 PGA Tour performances
Brian Harman finished in fifth place at The Sentry with 25-under 267. He next played the Sony Open, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and the Phoenix Open, finishing at T18, T54, and T60 with scores of 269, 212, and 281, respectively. At the Genesis Invitational, he finished in a tie for 44th place with 284. His other appearances were at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, finishing at T12, at the Players Championship, where he finished tied for second, and at the Valero Texas Open, where he finished tied for 25th.
Brian Harman missed the cutlines at the Valspar Championship and the Masters Tournament. He then played at the RBC Heritage, the Wells Fargo Championship, and the PGA Championship to finish at T12, T47, and T26 with 273, 291, and 275, respectively. He also played the Charles Schwab Challenge, the Memorial Tournament, and the US Open and finished in ties for 24th, 33rd, and 21st, respectively.
