Tommy Fleetwood opened up about his long game during a post-round press conference at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The English golfer teed it up at this week's DP World Tour event, and after three rounds, he is tied for fifth place.
He finished T3 at the Open de España last week and T12 at the BMW PGA Championship. Fleetwood has been in good form this season, but the 2024 Paris Olympics silver medalist is not happy with his long game.
On Saturday, Fleetwood was asked about his long game. The English golfer said (via ASAP Sports),
"Doesn't feel that great, to be honest. But I keep hitting it where I can hit it. I keep hitting it in play. It's a strange game, really. I think you look at the middle part of the year, I felt like I was playing as good as I've played for a long time and I was consistent without getting any results.
"I'm playing well. I'm doing a lot of the right things. I think scoring is something that's a bit frustrating, but at the same time, it's like there's so many good things going on. Obviously very consistent. Yeah, I can't be negative about it. Just have to look at things that I can improve on to obviously reach that next level. Because the consistency is there and I'm doing really well but I just feel like I could be doing that bit better."
Tommy Fleetwood has looked good so far in his play at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He shot rounds of 68, 65, and 67, settling in a tie for fifth place with James Ashfield at 16-under. Meanwhile, Tyrrell Hatton is in the lead at 22-under. The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday, October 6.
Six strokes off lead, Tommy Fleetwood says 'anything's possible' ahead of Alfred Dunhill Links final round
Tommy Fleetwood will tee off in the final round on Sunday, October 6, at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He will start his round six strokes behind the leader Tyrrell Hatton, who sits at the top of the leaderboard with 22-under.
Although there is a big margin to chase down in the final round, Fleetwood was optimistic about his chances. He acknowledged the difficulty of chasing the score, while also sounding hopeful for a good day on Sunday. He said (via ASAP Sports),
"Anything's possible. Not out of the realm of possibility being six shots behind. I still have to score better than I did today. Wherever I'm sitting, just continue to focus on my game and try and have a great day tomorrow and just see where that puts us."
Players will tee off for the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at 4:10 a.m. ET at the Old Course at St. Andrews on the first and tenth tees simultaneously. Fleetwood will tee off on the first hole at 6:11 a.m. ET (11:11 a.m. BST) in a group with Haotong Li and James Ashfield.
