Sam Burns is currently competing in the 2024 Tour Championship. The second round concluded on Friday, August 30 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

Burns was positioned 9th in the FedExCup rankings after the BMW Championship, so he started at East Lake with a score of 4 under. He is currently ranked seventh at the Tour Championship with a score of 11 under after the first two rounds. He is ten shots behind Scottie Scheffler who is on the top of the leaderboard with a score of 21 under par.

In the post-round press conference, Sam Burns was asked about his mindset going into the third round when Scheffler has a large lead heading into the weekend. He said (via ASAP Sports):

"Yeah, I need to make a lot of birdies. He's the best golfer on the planet. He's really good with leads. It's not a great thing for us."

Burns carded 3-under 68 in the second round. He scored four birdies on the 3rd, 6th, 17th and 18th holes against a bogey on par-4 seventh. Talking about his round, he said:

"I played really well today. Hit a lot ever really good putts that didn't go in. Just kind of one of those days. I think I played pretty nice."

Sam Burns was further asked if he looks much at the leaderboards during the tournament, especially when starting behind and seeing Scottie Scheffler leading. He said:

"Not really. Not when I'm 11-under and he's at 20. I'm nine shots off the lead. There's not really a point."

Burns has been playing really well in the FedExCup playoffs. He tied for fifth at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and tied for second at the BMW Championship.
