The 2024 Wyndham Championship had seen constant weather delays, but Matt Kuchar had added in an unexpected delay by one day. Despite the winner being crowned on Sunday, August 11, the PGA Tour star had opted to finish the tournament on Monday, August 12, despite being out of contention.

Kuchar had reportedly hit his tee shot into the group ahead of him unknowingly before picking up his ball to finish the next day. According to his post-round interview, Kuchar was trying to 'send a message' to his playing partner, Max Greyserman.

Greyserman recently appeared on the Fore Play podcast where host Dan Rapaport relayed Kuchar's 'message' to the golfer. Rapaport said:

"I'm gonna repeat what Kutcher said, and I'm just gonna see what your perspective was in the moment? He said when he hit the ball, so he hit into the group, apparently unknowingly ahead of you guys, which included Aaron Ryan, who's stepping up to basically trying to win the golf tournament. He said he didn't know they were there. And he said that he was trying to send a message to you as a veteran and you're a rookie. Was that something you were at all?" (1:15:15 - 1:19:20)

Greyserman said about the incident:

"[Matt Kuchar] never said anything to me. Not sure why he said that in the media. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. ... But for him to come out and say that he was trying to do something in service to me or something like that, I thought that was pretty weird."

Kuchar had already played his tee shot on the 18th hole. As he approached his ball to hit the second shot in the trees, he decided to complete the hole on the next day due to the darkness setting in even though his playing partners for the day, Chad Ramey and Max Greyserman, had completed the hole on Sunday.

However, Greyserman stated that Kuchar hadn't informed him or Ramey about his decision to finish the next day.

Kuchar has since apologized to the PGA Tour, fans, and his playing partners for the added delay. He said:

"Again, it stinks to - nobody wants to be that guy that's showing up today, one person, one hole. Not even one hole, half a hole to putt. So apologies to the tournament, to everybody that had to come out. I know it stinks, I know the ramifications, I know it stinks. Certainly I apologize to force everybody to come out here."
