"I would prefer to play away than at home" - Brian Harman on competing in a 'hostile environment' at the 2023 Ryder Cup

Brian Harman has said he enjoys playing away from home and silencing the crowd with his putts. With only the top six players on the Ryder Cup rankings making the team, Harman ranked fifth to qualify with 2,250.561 points. He will make his second start for Team USA next year in September at the iconic Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York.

The 37-year-old made his first Ryder Cup appearance in 2023 and had an overall record of 1-2-0. Harman recently claimed that the environment at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy was "hostile" but pushed him to play better. He said (via Fore Play on X):

"Its impossible to explain. We as golfers, you don't get to play in a hostile environment very often. I think I would almost prefer to play away than I would at home. There's nothing like making a putt and having them go quiet."

Brian Harman added that he does not play well at Augusta National during the Masters as he is surrounded by his fans. The PGA Tour star indicated that playing in front of home fans adds a certain level of pressure on him.

"It's why I think I haven't done any good at Augusta. It's like the only place where I have lots of fans. I play terrible," he said.
