Ewen Ferguson became a DP world champion by virtue of his exceptional performance at the 2024 BMW International Open. It was a monumental win after a bit of a trying period, and he dedicated the win to his family in an emotional speech.
He said:
"I honestly can't believe it. The last four holes, I felt like I was in a dream. ... I just wanted to do it for my dad, for my mom, my sister, my brother at home. I just, I love them so much. Every shot I hit with them in mind."
He went on to say that golf is "such a hard game" and that he has had a tough time over the last couple of months. The win was a weight off Ferguson's shoulders, and he said that he's so happy to finally get it.
Ferguson put in a solid closing round of four under par, which was enough to hold his lead and secure a victory at -18 overall. Also shooting four under in round four was David Micheluzzi, who couldn't do enough to muster a comeback as he finished second at -16.
His two previous titles came in 2022 at the Qatar Masters and the ISPS Handa World Invitational, so it has been a while since he won one. He was able to do so for his family, but it also allowed him to enter the Open Championship field, a tournament he had wanted to earn a spot for.

Ewen Ferguson smiled after knocking in a short putt to confirm his -18 score, which was two shots clear of the next-closest competitor on the DP World Tour's BMW International Series.
Winning at any time during a golf career is a monumental occasion, especially after a long drought. However, this win was even more important for Ewen Ferguson, as it confirmed a spot for him in the upcoming Open Championship, the fourth and final Major of the year.
He said via ESPN:
"The Open Championship is a tournament that everyone wants to play in. I feel like I can do well there."
Ferguson, as a result of his exceptional performance, will now be in the field at Royal Troon in western Scotland. It's fairly close to his hometown of Glasgow, so it's a bit of a homecoming. He will also play the Scottish Open on the PGA Tour before that.
Those two events don't take place immediately, though. The Open Championship is from July 18 to 21, and the Scottish Open, which also happens to be Rory McIlroy's return to golf after the US Open, will be the week before that.
