Golf influencer Luke Kwon makes cut on Asian Tour debut

Luke Kwon is playing in the Asian Tour's 2024 Black Mountain Championship at Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand. Kwon has had a strong showing at the event, making the cut by one stroke.

The $3.7 million worth (via Work With Joshua) golf influencer finished the first 36 holes at 7-under and is tied for 41st place. The cut-line for the event was set at 6-under and was surpassed by 69 players.

Luke Kwon played the first round at a high level, carding 5 birdies and no bogeys. On Friday, he carded four birdies and two bogeys to make the cut at the tournament that marks his return to professional competitive golf.

Over the first two rounds, Luke Kwon hit 16 of 28 fairways (57.14%) and 28 of 36 greens in regulation (77.77%).

Luke Kwon received a sponsor's exemption to play in the Black Mountain Championship. His colleague Taewook Koh, better known as Taco Golf, also received an invitation but failed to make the cut after rounds of 72 and 80.

Despite being tied for 41st, Luke Kwon is only six shots off the lead. Thailand's Suteepat Prateeptienchai and India's Gaganjeet Bhullar lead the tournament at 13-under.

The tournament features several notable players, including John Catlin, LIV Golf reserve player and leader of the Asian Tour's International Series. Also present are LIV Golf players (currently relegated) Scott and Kieran Vincent.

Other LIV Golf players in attendance are Jinichiro Kozuma and Peter Uihlein. The 2023 Latin American Amateur Champion, Santiago de la Fuente, is playing one of his first events as a professional since making his debut at the PGA Tour's 3M Open last July.


Overview of Luke Kwon's golf career

Kwon's most recent competitive event was the PGA Tour's Creator Classic last August. The event featured a field of 16 golf influencers, and Kwon won the title with a 1-under score, defeating the other three leaders in a playoff.

The Korean played collegiate golf for the University of Oklahoma with good results and began his professional career in 2016. He then played several tournaments on the PGA Tour's feeder circuits, American soil, in Latin America, and China.

His best results were on the PGA Tour China, where he played 16 events between 2018 and 2019, with one victory and 14 cuts made.

On the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, he played five events in 2020 and 10 in 2022. He managed to make the cut 11 times but did not achieve any top-10s.

Kwon also played on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he participated in 16 tournaments during the 2020 season. He only managed to make the cut six times and failed to post any top-10 finishes.

In 2022, Kwon suffered a brain injury in a golf cart accident. Fortunately, he made a successful recovery and was able to return to golf.
