Robert MacIntyre won the Genesis Scottish Open 2024 on Sunday (July 14). The Scottish native had earlier noted that The Renaissance Club event was the one PGA Tour win he always wanted. Following the triumph, the 27-year-old noted that he is going to party hard.

It is pertinent to note that MacIntyre is bound to play The Open Championship this weekend. The golfer had a press conference scheduled on Monday morning at Royal Troon. Interestingly, the European Ryder Cup star noted that there “might be a change of schedule” as he is headed straight to party after his Scottish Open win.

Speaking in the winner’s press conference, the PGA Tour star addressed his press conference happening at 3 pm on Monday and stated that he will not “be legally able to drive” after celebrating.

Robert MacIntyre said, as quoted by Golf Channel:

“I think there might be a change of schedule. I don’t think I’ll be in a fit state to get to Troon. I don’t think I’ll be legally able to drive… This, I’m going to celebrate hard, and I’ll pitch up when I tee the ball on Thursday, whatever time I tee off, I’ll try to win the championship. There might be some alcohol still in the system, but I will try my best.”

In an interview with Golf Channel after his win, MacIntyre noted that the win and its celebration is “going to be really special.” He reiterated that the Scottish Open is ‘one golf tournament he wanted in my golf career.’

Robert MacIntyre says he won’t get over the Scottish Open win by The Open

Robert MacIntyre lost the Genesis Scottish Open to Rory McIlroy last year. The 27-year-old golfer was seemingly heartbroken after he fell short of a win on home soil. However, he managed to sink in a 22-foot birdie putt on the final hole on Sunday to beat Adam Scott to the trophy.

With this, he become the first Scot to capture this national open in 25 years.

The golfer said after his win:

“I’ve lost my voice from the scream that I let out. I mean, last year was heartbreaking, but this year, yeah, it means everything. This is one that I said I wanted at some point in my career, and I got it today… How I come down from this? I don’t think I will.”
