Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood, and Hideki Matsuyama will not be receiving any prize money from the Olympics for winning a medal. The gold medal winner, Scheffler, will earn 50 Official World Golf Ranking points.

The gold medal winner also receives exemptions to next year's majors i.e., the Masters, the PGA Championship, the US Open, and The Open Championship. In this case, Scheffler is already exempted into all of next year's majors.

The winner of the men's golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics is also entitled to an exemption for the Players Championship and the Sentry if they are a member of the PGA Tour. Scheffler is exempted at both tournaments already. Further, the International Golf Federation has opted out of any monetary compensation for the winners in Paris.

Scottie Scheffler won the gold medal at the the Paris Olympics after an unbelievable comeback in the fourth round. He carded a bogey-free 62 in the last 18 holes. He notched three birdies on the first three holes on the front nine, and then hit six birdies on the 10th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes on the back nine.

Scheffler finished with an aggregate score of 19-under 265. This is his seventh win in 17 starts this season. He also won the first major of the year, the 2024 Masters at Augusta National, by four shots over Ludvig Aberg.

Tommy Fleetwood rates a gold medal at the Olympics more than a major win

After 36 holes of stroke play at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Tommy Fleetwood was the joint leader. He eventually won the silver medal after carding a 5-under 66 in the final round. The Brit finished with a score of 18-under 266.

During the press conference, Fleetwood was asked how he would feel if he ended his career with an Olympics gold medal but never won a major. He said (via ASAP Sports):

"Still got a gold medal, right, I kind of look at things -- I try and look at things through the eyes of like Frankie, for instance, my son, at six years old. If I had a gold medal, he would always take it when I was gone or whatever, and I think what an unbelievably special thing to have."

Fleetwood has played in 37 major tournaments and has made cuts at 27 of them. He has seven top-5 finishes at major championships but has yet to register a victory. He further remained optimistic and said:

"So, I mean, ideally I would like both but you know, still, a gold medal would be something that I would be very proud of."

Fleetwood lost the gold medal after he bogeyed the par-4 17th hole. Justin Rose won the gold medal for Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics Golf in Rio.
