Davis Riley’s Charles Schwab Challenge triumph drew 12% more viewership compared to the 2023 event

Davis Riley emerged victorious at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge last week to take home a slice of the $9.1 million purse prize. Sports Business Journal's Josh Carpenter offered an insight into the viewing stats for Riley's win.

The 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge saw a nine-year low. 1.854 million people tuned in to watch Emiliano Grillo win the tournament last year. Davis Riley's victory at this year's edition of the event saw a 12% increase in viewership with 2.083 million viewers tuning in for the final round at Colonial Country Club.

The 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge was Davis Riley's 90th start on the PGA Tour. Riley defeated the world number one Scottie Scheffler by five strokes.

Riley carded impressive rounds at Colonial Country Club to total up to 14 under par at the event. Emiliano Grillo won last year with a total score of eight under par. Davis Riley earned 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1,638,000 check.


Davis Riley 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge recap

The 27-year-old golfer won his first title of the season and the second of his PGA Tour career at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club. Davis Riley won the tournament by a five-stroke margin ahead of Keegan Bradley and Scottie Scheffler.

Riley fired an opening round score of four under par with only one birdie for the day. He followed it up with a three under par round the next day to move him further up the leaderboard.

Riley played an impressive third round carding in six birdies and two bogeys. He had a bit of a rocky start in the final round at Colonial Country Club. He carded in two bogeys for the front nine to end the first half of the round even par 35.

Riley's back nine also saw two bogeys. He fought back the bogeys with birdies to card in a 35 for the back nine, bringing his score for the day to even par 70.

Making 21 birdies, 44 pars, and seven bogeys, Davis Riley became the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge champion with a 14 under par score. Riley not only led the field in the total number of birdies made, but he also led the field in total strokes gained.

The champion had an impressive 17.337 in total strokes gained. With an average driving distance of 312.70 yards and his longest being 382 yards, he hit 32 out of 56 fairways off the tee giving him a driving accuracy of 57.14%.
