Fans were unhappy with Shane Lowry's complaints about the tee boxes at Royal Troon during the 2024 Open Championship. The Irish golfer was in the lead after the second round, but his game faltered on Saturday, and he struggled with his shots.

Following the third round, Lowry expressed his frustration with the golf course design. Nuclr Golf shared a video of him on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:

"Shane Lowry wasn’t too happy after the 3rd round saying some of the tee boxes should’ve been moved up today. Do you agree with Shane?"

However, the fans did not support Lowry's comments about the course design, emphasizing that all players faced the same conditions. One fan remarked that it’s a Major Championship, and players should be prepared for tough conditions.

"Are they ever happy? It’s a major championship. Did they think they’d walk in and shoot -25?" a fan commented.

Meanwhile, others discussed the difficulty of the course for all the players.

"It’s the same for everyone. Who cares," a fan wrote.
"Same for all. But I agree with his point about distance. We can make the sport harder without just adding length," another fan jotted.
"Shane you can’t complain when everyone else has to play same course … stop crying it’s beneath you," one more fan wrote.

Shane Lowry complains about tee boxes at The Open Championship

Shane Lowry raised concerns about the tee boxes at The Open Championship 2024 after speaking to the media in the third round. The Irishman criticized the placement of the tee boxes at Royal Troon, particularly on the final few holes.

He said (via Nuclr Golf on X):

"Wasn't much fun, you know. Driver, driver into 15. 16 playing, Ridiculously long. Driver into 17, and then suddenly 18th tee wondering. If you can actually hit the fairway. If you can reach the fairway, it is 230 yards to the fairway.
"You'd have to question why there weren't a couple of tees pulled forward. Today, to be honest, you know, I think 15, and 17, like 15, like 500 yards playing into that wind, it's, you know, yeah. They keep trying to make holes longer. The best hole in this course is a hundred yards. So yeah," he added.

Shane Lowry will enter the final round of The Open Championship 2024 with a score of -1, just three strokes behind the leader, Billy Horschel.

While Lowry struggled in the third round, Thriston Lawrence shot a 65 to move into second place on the leaderboard. Sam Burns also shot 65 in the third round, while Horschel shot 69 to take the lead. The finale of the event is scheduled for Sunday, July 21.
