Andy Murray was one of the most illustrious participants at the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am on Wednesday, September 18. The event gave Murray the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the world's top golfers, but he also had a very special caddie.

The three-time Grand Slam winner and two-time Olympic gold medallist had his father as his caddie in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am. Andy Murray said it was a great opportunity that he didn't normally have when he played professional tennis.

Here is what Murray said (via ASAP Sports):

"My dad might be getting the sack after his performance today. He spent most of his time sort of following Bob around. Like, I need my clubs; I need to putt."

He added:

"But no, it was brilliant. For me, it's special, during my tennis career, I didn't get to spend loads of time with my dad [due to] travel and everything. So getting to do that, it was a really cool day, as well. I don't know if he'll want to caddie for me again but I enjoyed having him here."

Andy Murray played in the same group as fellow Scot Robert MacIntyre at the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am. Coincidentally, MacIntyre won the 2024 RBC Canadian Open with his father as his caddie.

Murray played professional tennis between 2005 and 2024. He won 739 matches and lost 262 in his illustrious career. He won 46 titles, including three Grand Slam tournaments (2012 US Open and 2013 and 2016 Wimbledon). He also won two Olympic gold medals (London 2012 and Rio 2016).

Andy Murray is a well-known golf enthusiast. So much so that after his retirement last August, he changed his bio on his official social media profiles to read:

"I played tennis. I now play golf."

Andy Murray and his love for golf

The BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am is Andy Murray's first high-profile event since retiring from tennis after the Paris 2024 Olympics.

According to the official DP World Tour website, Murray has a 7 handicap. However, the Scot plans to improve his game significantly as soon as possible:

"I'm obviously getting to practise a lot more than the average person. I played a bit when I was younger and if I can get the right sort of lessons and practise the right things, then yeah, I've got a chance of [getting down to scratch] I think in a couple of years."

Andy Murray joins a long list of tennis stars who are also golf fans. Roger Federer has posted numerous videos showing off his golf game, as has Carlos Alcaraz. In the case of Rafael Nadal, he even won the amateur event of his birthplace, the Balearic Mid-Amateur Championship.

Murray was joined at The Wentworth Club by a number of stars from other sports. Among them were former Welsh soccer player Gareth Bale and England cricketers James Anderson and Ollie Pope. Popular actor Tom Holland was also in attendance.
