8 big names to miss the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship ft. Matt Fitzpatrick

Several of the world's best golfers are in this week's field for the DP World Tour's 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Being played at the prestigious Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns, players were pushed to their limits and had their skills tested.

Following the conclusion of the third round, a big number of the field will not be playing the final round on Sunday, October 6. Here's a look into eight big names that missed the nine-under par cut this week:


#1 Matt Fitzpatrick missed the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Matt Fitzpatrick started off the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with an opening round score of four-under comprised of five birdies. The Englishman followed it up with a one-under par 71 on Friday. Despite good weather permitting low scoring, the nine-time DP World Tour winner carded in three bogeys that day with two of them on the par three 13th and 15th holes.

Fitzpatrick finished the third day tied for 72nd along with 12 other players at eight-under par. With a third round score of three-under, the defending champion, who won by three strokes last year, will be heading home early after missing the cut by one stroke.


#2 Billy Horschel

Billy Horschel bid the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship an early farewell following a tied for 72nd place finish with a 54-hole score of eight-under. The three-time DP World Tour winner opened the tournament with a two-under par 70 score with six birdies and four bogeys.

He followed it up with four-under on Friday and went on to replicate another two-under par 70 score to drop down the leaderboard. Ranked 17th in the world, Horschel was favored to finish in the top ten this weekend but instead went on to miss his first cut since the Genesis Scottish Open.


#3 Rasmus Hojgaard

The 23-year-old opened up this week with a two-under par 70 score at Carnoustie. Rasmus Hojgaard went on to dominate the Kingsbarn Golf Course on Friday and went on to post an incredible seven-under par 65 round.

However, the Old Course at St. Andrews challenged the five-time DP World Tour winner. He posted a two-over par 74 round comprised of one eagle, two birdies, two bogeys, and two double bogeys to finish tied for 85th place.


#4 Nicolai Hojgaard

Nicolai Hojgaard had a tough week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. An opening round of two-under par 70 at Carnoustie was standard for the 23-year-old. On Friday, the OWGR 51st ranked player played consistent with a one-under par 71 featuring two birdies and one bogey.

He went on to have a rollercoaster of a day at the Old Course. The three-time DP World Tour winner carded in a two-under par 70 round after six birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey. He finished tied for 111st place and missed the cut.


#5 Louis Oosthuizen

Louis Oosthuizen started the event with an even par 72 after carding in four birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey at Carnoustie. The LIV Golf player bettered his game on Friday at the Kingsbarn Golf Links with a three-under par 69 score.

However, he failed to adapt to the pressure that comes with playing at the legendary Old Course at St. Andrews. A third round score of two-over left the 11-time DP World Tour winner tied for 140th place with a total 54-hole score of 1-under.


#6 Thomas Detry

Thomas Detry had a rough start to this week's DP World Tour event. After carding in five birdies and four bogeys in the first 17 holes, the Belgium native had the opportunity to close with one-under par. However, an unfortunate triple bogey 7 on the par four 18th hole left him with a score of two-over par 74.

Ranked 57th in the world, he followed it up with scores of two-under par and one-under par to tie for 140th place with a total score of one-under to miss the cut by seven strokes.


#7 Pablo Larrazabal

Pablo Larrazabal had a rough first two rounds at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He opened with an even par score at the Old Course before having a rollercoaster of a day at Carnoustie on Friday.

The nine-time DP World Tour winner claimed three birdies along with two bogeys and two double bogeys to shoot three-over. Larrazabal went on to card a four-under 68 on Saturday to tie for 140th place with a total score of one-under.


#8 Sam Bairstow

Sam Bairstow began the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with a bogey-free five-under par at the Old Course. Despite dominating one of the most challenging golf courses, he went on to card a three-over par 75 the next day at Carnoustie.

A third round score of two-under par 70 landed the 26-year-old tied for 121st place with a 54-hole score of four-under par to miss the cut.
