For gaming and social, you may experience issues related to game streaming. This is the main reason why some players think the Fortnite server is down on PS5. Here's what PlayStation had to say:
"You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features."
For the PlayStation Store, you may experience issues related to purchasing, downloading, browsing, searching, and redeeming vouchers. This is what PlayStation had to say on the matter:
"You might have difficulty getting products in PlayStation Store."
As seen from the list of issues, the Fortnite server down on PS5 problem seems relatively minor. Despite the game not being entirely dependent on the PlayStation Network, the aforementioned issues are affecting gameplay.
When could the Fortnite server down on PS5 problem be resolved?
At the moment, there is no telling how long this issue will persist. Having the Fortnite server down on PS5 is a problem, but it's not affecting everyone. As such, this may not be a problem for the majority of PlayStation players.
