Liverpool capitalized on Manchester City's dropped points on Saturday (September 28) to take the summit of the Premier League table thanks to a Mohamed Salah penalty. The Egyptian converted from the spot to help Arne Slot's side beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at the Molineux and reach atop the standings.

The visitors opened the scoring in the first half through Ibrahima Konate in stoppage time after he connected with a Diogo Jota cross. Wolves hit back in the second half through Rayan Ait-Nouri in the 56th minute. However, Jota completed his torment of his former employers by winning a spot-kick for Mohamed Salah to convert in the 61st minute.

Liverpool moved to the top of the table after Manchester City drew 1-1 against Manchester City at St. James' Park earlier on the day.

Liverpool player ratings

Alisson Becker - 8/10

The former AS Roma keeper was solid for Liverpool against Wolves despite failing to keep a clean sheet. He made two saves and completed 83% of his passes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.5/10

The England international had a solid game for the Reds, taking two shots and recovering possession seven times. He also won his two tackles and looked good on the road.

Ibrahima Konate- 7/10

The French defender largely had a good game and opened the scoring for his side late in the first half. However, he made a mistake that allowed Wolves to equalize.

Konate's overall defensive efforts gave the platform for Mohamed Salah to win the three points for Liverpool. He recovered possession three times, made two interceptions and one block in a fine performance.

Virgil van Dijk- 7.5/10

The former Southampton defender completed the most passes in the game (74). He was immense in the heart of the visitors' defense making two recoveries and five clearances to secure the win.

Andy Robertson- 7.5/10

The former Hull City defender was solid for the Merseyside-based club and completed 56 out of 63 passes. He also made six recoveries and one interception in the match.

Ryan Gravenberch- 7.5/10

The former Bayern Munich midfielder continued his purple patch of form under Arnse Slot and had a fine game. He was the most fouled player on the pitch, winning four freekicks for his side, and also made the most tackles in the match (3).

Alexis Mac Allister -7/10

The former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder lost the most duels on the pitch today (8) but did not have a poor showing. He completed 85% of his passes for Liverpool and helped secure the win with his seven interceptions.

Dominik Szoboszlai- 7/10

The RB Leipzig midfielder was solid for the Reds, making 84% of his passes and winning two freekicks. He missed a sitter from inside the six-yard box but deserves props for his effort in the game.

Mohamed Salah- 8.5/10

Mohamed Salah was the deciding factor in the match for Liverpool. He completed 70% of his passes and created two chances but most importantly scored the winning goal.

Luis Diaz- 7/10

The Colombia international completed 88% of his passes and made four recoveries in the game for Liverpool. The front three of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz looked dangerous and fluid in today's visit to the Midlands.

Diogo Jota- 8.5/10

The Portuguese star had a fine game for Liverpool against Wolverhampton Wanderers and is a worthy candidate for the Player of the Match award. He set up Ibrahima Konate for the opener and won the penalty Mohamed Salah converted to secure the win.

Jones came on for 17 minutes and did little more than help the visitors see out their result against Wolves. He had 15 touches in the game but managed to win a free kick for his team.

Cody Gakpo - 6/10

The Dutchman came on for 17 minutes and was a lively albeit ineffective addition. He completed seven passes and dribbled past his man on one occasion from 12 touches.
