Every four minutes, an area the size of a football field is destroyed in Brazilian forests. The World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) wanted the country to take note of this and make amends.
So, in an innovative move during a match between the Brazil and Denmark women’s football team, the viewers witnessed some special effects.
A portion of the pitch turned brown and it slowly engulfed the entire field in the next four minutes. This was aired on TV to show how deforestation consumes all that is ‘good’ and ‘green’, and football being watched by millions, turned an agent of change:
