Liverpool's transfer activity, or lack of it, under new manager Arne Slot, has come under scrutiny as we approach the new season. However, it seems like there is finally some movement with youngster and youth graduate Owen Beck reportedly set to join Scottish giants, Celtic.

As per Daily Mail (via Tribal Football), former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, is set to renew his interest in the 21-year-old. The left-back is deemed surplus to requirements with Scotland international Andy Robertson and his deputy Kostas Tsimikas ahead of him in the pecking order. Versatile defender Joe Gomez, who is also at the center of transfer speculation, also deputized at left back a few times under Jurgen Klopp last season.

Owen Beck spent the last couple of seasons on loan at Famalicao, Bolton, and most recently, Dundee United in the Scottish League. He could be set to return there, this time on a permanent deal with Celtic. He's made three senior appearances for the Reds.

A summary of Liverpool's transfer inactivity so far

With Jurgen Klopp announcing his decision to leave Liverpool midway through the 2023-24 season, the Reds completely overhauled their backroom staff. Former Sporting Director Michael Edwards rejoined the Reds in an elevated role and appointed Richard Hughes as the Sporting Director. Feyenoord manager Arne Slot was also roped in to replace the outgoing German.

Plenty of movement was expected from Liverpool in the summer window with this overhaul. A no. 6 was expected to be the biggest priority. This is especially considering the club publicly courted top defensive midfielders last summer and settled for a short-term signing in Wataru Endo. Further signings to replace outgoings of popular figures such as Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara were also required.

However, the 19-time English champions remain the only club in the Top 5 leagues of Europe to not have made a signing this summer. According to reports, their first business would have been signing Anthony Gordon with Joe Gomez going the other way in a deal valued at £75 million. However, the deal broke down after Newcastle raised funds from other outgoings.

The news from within the club has indicated that the club will not be forced to make transfers for the sake of it. Contract renewals for leaders Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah are also said to be of priority, as per BBC.

It remains to be seen when Liverpool's transfer window finally sees some action. Their recent result against Arsenal, a 2-1 win in the USA in a pre-season friendly, is sure to calm the fans down for the time being.
