New Liverpool boss Arne Slot looks on.

Everton are reportedly closing in on Napoli midfielder Jesper Lindstorm, a self-confessed Liverpool fan who spurned a move to the club. The 24-year-old moved to the Serie A club last summer from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lindstrom made 29 appearances across competitions for Napoli last season without making a goal contribution. He's contracted with the club till 2028, but there has been no dearth of interest in his services.

Corriere dello Sport (as per TBR) has reported that Everton are close to snapping up Lindstrom on a loan deal with an option to make it permanent next summer for €25 million. Making just two starts in 22 games in the league - where the holders finished a lowly tenth - the Napoli midfielder could make do with a fresh start.

Interestingly, Lindstrom had previously said that he supports Everton's local rivals but spurned a move to Anfield last summer due to concerns over playing time (as per TBR):

"There was Liverpool, but would I get playing time? Would it be smart to go to Liverpool? I’m a Liverpool fan, so, it would also be an insanely cool experience, but if I’m not playing, I might as well sit and watch them on TV for another club.”

Less than a year later, he could soon turn out for their local rivals Everton.

Among 10 Liverpool players who featured at Euro 2024, only two - Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez - featured in the final. Both were with England, who lost 2-1 to Spain in the Berlin final on Sunday (July 14).

Both men were unused substitutes as the Three Lions became the first team to lose consecutive European Championship finals. Alexander-Arnold, though, scored the winning penalty in the 5-3 quarter-final shootout win over Switzerland following a 1-1 draw.

Overall, the Reds right-back featured four times at Euro 2024 without making a goal contribution, while the 27-year-old Gomez was on the bench for all seven games in Germany.
