Liverpool have reportedly set an asking price of €55 million for their captain Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch centre-back has been at the club since arriving from Southampton in January 2018.

Van Dijk played a key role in the club's success under Jurgen Klopp, who left at the end of the season, citing burnout. The 33-year-old defender is out of contract next summer, so there was speculation that he would follow Klopp out of Anfield this summer.

With Van Dijk not yet committing his future to the club, Saudi Pro League clubs have eyed him with interest. TEAMtalk (via GOAL) has reported that the Reds have set an asking price for their captain.

However, the report also says that the PIF, owner of the Saudi Pro League, deems that too high a price for an ageing defender running out of contract. If Van Dijk doesn't sign an extension till January, he would be free to strike a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs ahead of a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk seems non-commital about his future at the club. At a recent interview following the Netherlands' Euro 2024 exit in the semi-final, the 33-year-old said that he's yet to think about his future with club and country.

After leading his nation to their first European Championship semi-final in 20 years - lost 2-1 to England, Van Dijk said that he give a thought about his future after a brief period of recovery, telling Reuters (via GOAL):

"I haven’t the slightest idea right now (about my future). I will think carefully this summer about what I want at the club level and as an international player. Then we’ll go for it again, but first recover from this.
"After a season like this, where all kinds of things have happened, it gets emotional at the end because you know it’s over."

Van Dijk is expected to be available for his compatriot Arne Slot's first season in charge at Anfield, with the former Feyenoord boss arriving to succeed the legendary Klopp.
