New Liverpool boss Arne Slot looks on.

Liverpool have reportedly promptly rejected PSV Eindhoven's bid for defender Sepp van den Berg. The lanky Dutchman has made just four appearances for the Reds since the 2019-20 season.

Van den Berg is contracted to Anfield in 2026 but seemingly faces an uncertain future at the club. GOAL reported that the 22-year-old is contemplating leaving unless his game time improves under new boss Arne Slot.

PSV tested the waters with a bid of around €10 million, but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported that the Reds 'immediately rejected' the offer.

It's pertinent to note that Van den Berg has spent two seasons on loan at Preston North End and another with Schalke and Mainz. Valued at around €20 million by the Reds, the player has interest from multiple teams like PSV, Wolfsburg and Mainz.

Van den Berg deems the asking price to be too high, though (as per GOAL):

"I know in today’s market (high prices) will happen. For the price they want for me, hmm. m… Liverpool may think it is right, as I had a good season, if they want £20-£25million that is a lot more.
"Hopefully, we can find a way. Maybe I stay, maybe I go. The first reaction from me is that it was quite high! It is also a compliment. But it makes it difficult, £20m is majorly high."

The Reds defender is coming off an impressive 2023-24 season on loan at Mainz, scoring thrice in 36 games across competitions. All three goals came in the Bundesliga in 33 outings.

Liverpool kickstarted the Arne Slot era with a narrow 1-0 friendly loss to Preston North End in a closed-doors game in Kirkby before opening their US tour with a 1-0 win over La Liga side Real Betis in Pittsburgh.

Next up, the Reds take on Arsenal in Philadelphia on Wednesday (July 31) before ending their tour with a clash with Manchester United in South Carolina three days later.

Slot's side ends their pre-season at home against Sevilla on August 11 before opening their Premier League campaign at newly promoted Ipswich Town on August 17.
