TSG Hoffenheim are reportedly contempating a move for Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg. The 22-year-old centre-back has played just four times for the club since his senior debut in the 2019-20 season.

He's contracted to the Anfield side till 2026 but looks set to move this summer for a new challenge. According to Florian Plettenberg, Bundesliga side Hoffenheim have joined the fray to snap up the Dutchman.

Van den Berg made all four appearances for the Reds in the 2019-20 season and has spent the last few seasons on loan. With seemingly little hope of breaking into new boss Arne Slot's side, the player could look forward to a new challenge.

The Reds are preparing for life under former Feyenoord boss, who has replaced the legendary Jurgen Klopp, who left at the end of the last season citing burnout after nine campaigns in charge.

The German won every title at the club - including their maiden Premier League - except for the UEFA Europa League. The Reds won't play in the continental competition next season - at least not before January - as they finished third to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool are set to commence their pre-season tour of the United States without as many as 13 players. All of them except Bobby Clark and Jayden Danns - who are out due to injury - were busy on international duty during the summer and have been afforded extra rest.

The list of absentees include Alisson, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, Ryan Gravenberch and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Among them, Alisson, Diaz, Nunez and Mac Allister were involved at 2024 Copa America, while the others were at UEFA Euro 2024, with Mac Allister the only one to win a title (with Argentina).

The Reds began their Slot era with a 1-0 friendly defeat to Preston North End earlier last week in a closed-doors game. Winger Robbie Brady scored the only goal of the game.

Liverpool play their first competitive game under Slot in the Premier League opener over newly promoted Ipswich Town on August 17.
