West Ham United and Crystal Palace are allegedly interested in roping in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah in the summer transfer window.

Chalobah, 25, has lately dropped down in the Blues' pecking order following Tosin Adarabioyo's arrival earlier this summer. The centre-back was left out of his club's pre-season tour of the United States.

Now, according to Sky Sports, West Ham United have identified Chalobah as a top defensive target this summer. They are also monitoring the likes of Mats Hummels, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Oumar Solet.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also hoping to add Chalobah to their squad as they could lose Marc Guehi this summer, as per The Telegraph. They have been told to splash £25 million to rope in Chalobah.

Chalobah, who has a deal until June 2028 at his boyhood club, is currently training away from Chelsea's first-team ahead of the new season. He featured in 17 games across competitions for his club last term.

Overall, the right-footed versatile defender has made 80 appearances for Chelsea. He has netted five goals and laid out one assist for them.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca opines on Blues' recent sub-par defensive outings

Speaking after his side's 2-1 pre-season loss to Real Madrid on August 6, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca shared his two cents on his team's lack of defensive nous. He said (h/t football.london):

"It's a problem we are trying to solve from pre-season, since day one. One of my first meetings with the squad was about the amount of goals we conceded last year with the defensive line very high. It's something we are trying to work on. Today, offensively, we were there... the patterns are there. The problem is defensively [and] I don't just mean the defensive line, but in general, all the players."

When asked about the Blues' high defensive line, Maresca responded:

"It's a habit. We are not working on defensive lines so high. It's a habit from last year, or years ago; I don't know. We are trying to drop the defensive line a little bit, usually about four or five metres, just to have some advantage. Last year, we already conceded many goals with this problem. Hopefully we can solve it very soon."

Chelsea have conceded 12 goals in five pre-season matches so far.

Under former Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino past term, the west London side shipped 76 goals in 51 matches across all competitions.
