Erik ten Hag's job at Manchester United is under scrutiny

Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly want Massimiliano Allegri to take the hot seat at Old Trafford if the Red Devils part ways with Erik ten Hag. Allegri and Thomas Tuchel are the two rumored candidates for the job, as per Gazzetta Dello Sport.

As per the report, Ferguson prefers Allegri for the job over Tuchel should United part ways with Ten Hag. The current United boss is under immense scrutiny, which was further compounded after his team's heavy 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday (September 29).

Allegri and Tuchel are both currently out of jobs, with the former last managing Juventus and the latter parting ways with Bayern Munich. As per reports, Tuchel has previously held talks with Manchester United earlier this summer but a move could not be finalized for the German tactician.

Among the two candidates, Tuchel has previous experience of managing in England, leading Chelsea to the UEFA Champions League title back in 2021. Tuchel has also worked in Germany and France whereas Allegri has never worked outside of Italy.

Erik ten Hag defiant about his future at Manchester United

Despite suffering heavy losses this season, and languishing at the 13th place in the league table, Erik ten Hag feels he will not be sacked by Manchester United.

Speaking after his team's 3-0 loss to Spurs, ten Hag said (via Yahoo Sports):

"I’m not thinking about it, I’m not anxious. We created a togetherness in the summer with the ownership and the leadership. We made this agreement, and we were all behind it."

He added:

"We know the strategy [is to bring in] young players in a transition period. They also know in May in all my last six seasons there were always trophies and that is what we are aiming for.”

The Dutchman's team will take on FC Porto in the Europa League next followed by a clash in the Premier League with Unai Emery's Aston Villa.
