Real Madrid are reportedly looking to sign Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries after Dani Carvajal picked up a long-term injury. The news comes from Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim that Los Blancos are looking for a new long-term successor to Carvajal anyway (via The Hard Tackle).

Dumfries is an undoubted starter for his current employers but has entered the final year of his deal at Inter. Therefore, the Nerazzurri may be forced into letting go of the defender in the January transfer window in order to ensure he doesn't walk away for free in the summer of 2025.

However, the report suggests that it won't be easy for Carlo Ancelotti and Co. to complete a deal for Dumfries, with interest from other clubs around Europe. Premier League sides Newcastle United and Manchester United are said to be among those monitoring the full-back's situation.

A move to the Santiago Bernabeu would be ideal for Dumfries, who turned 28 in April this year. He would earn himself the opportunity to compete for top honors like the La Liga and Champions League trophies on a regular basis. Real Madrid managed to win both competitions during the 2023/24 season.

Moreover, with Carvajal well over the age of 30 and his contract running out in 2026, there is an opportunity for Dumfries to take over as the long-term right-back. To date, the Dutchman has made 139 appearances across competitions for Inter Milan, bagging 12 goals and 20 assists.

He's managed to win the Serie A once and the Coppa Italia twice, among other honors at the San Siro.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti believes that Lucas Vazquez will serve as sufficient cover for the injured Dani Carvajal at right-back for the remainder of the season.

Carvajal suffered an ACL injury last weekend, which is set to keep him out for the rest of the campaign. Speaking about the need to sign a new right-back for the Spaniard, Ancelotti said as per Mundo Deportivo (via Football Espana):

"Lucas Vazquez will give us a lot of confidence and in the break we will talk about this issue. The market is closed and there are not many options."

Vazquez has been used as the second-choice right-back at Real Madrid in recent times. Last season, he made 38 appearances across competitions, bagging three goals and eight assists while mostly playing in this position.
