Manchester United have stepped up their plans to sign Ederson Dos Santos, according to TNT Sports Brasil. The Brazilian midfielder was linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window but the Red Devils failed to get the deal over the line.

Ederson has enjoyed an impressive rise with Atalanta since arriving at the Gewiss Stadium in 2022. The 25-year-old has already amassed 96 appearances across competitions for the Serie A side, registering eight goals and three assists.

His efforts have convinced Manchester United, who remain hot on his heels at the moment. Erik ten Hag already bolstered his midfield this summer by roping in Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

However, the Red Devils are looking for further reinforcements in 2025, as they prepare for life without Casemiro. The Brazilian hasn't been in his element of late and the Premier League giants were also keen to offload him this summer.

Although a move failed to materialize, the 32-year-old is expected to be on his way at the end of this season. New minority owners INEOS are apparently keen to remove the player's exorbitant wages from the club's books. They have identified Ederson as the ideal candidate to take his place.

Casemiro is not the only midfielder expected to depart in 2025, with Christian Eriksen also in the final year of his contract. With Scott McTominay already leaving Manchester United this summer, they are eager to get their hands on the Atalanta midfielder as soon as possible.

Could Manchester United sign Ederson in January?

Manchester United are apparently exploring the option to bring Ederson to Old Trafford at the turn of the year. The 25-year-old is under contract with Atalanta until 2027 and is expected to cost at least €50m next summer.

That price could rise up to €60 million if the Premier League giants pursue a move for the Brazilian in January. The Red Devils have traditionally refrained from spending big in the transfer market in the winter.

However, it is important to note that they signed Bruno Fernandes in January of 2020 from Sporting CP. The Portuguese transformed the team and is arguably their best bit of business in the last decade.

Manchester United are likely to face competition from Barcelona, Inter Milan as well as Newcastle United for Ederson's signature. However, the Red Devils share a cordial relationship with the Serie A side, which could help them land their target.
