Manchester United open to selling 6 more players this summer

Manchester United are reportedly open to selling six players this summer as they look for a major rebuild under INEOS. They have already parted ways with five players permanently and signed two.

The Red Devils have completed the signing of striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and defender Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille. Centre-back Raphael Varane and striker Anthony Martial left the club last month upon the expiration of their contracts. Meanwhile, Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, and Donny van de Beek have joined Marseille, Villarreal, and Girona, respectively.

As per Metro, Manchester United are open to selling at least six more players this summer, including three defenders and three midfielders. In defense, they are ready to part ways with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The contracts of all three players expire next summer and hence, they are expected to leave this summer.

While Maguire appeared to have turned a leaf last summer, he had to deal with multiple injury issues. Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof has fallen in the pecking order due to his inconsistent form. Wan-Bissaka, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to West Ham United.

In midfield, Manchester United are open to selling Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, and Casemiro, as per ESPN. While McTominay and Eriksen are set to become free agents next summer, Casemiro's contract expires in 2026.

McTominay has been linked with multiple clubs this summer, including Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, and West Ham. Meanwhile, Casemiro has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Erik ten Hag demands more from his players after Manchester United's pre-season friendly defeat

The Red Devils began their pre-season campaign ahead of the 2024-25 season with a 1-0 defeat against Norwegian side Rosenborg. Noah Emmanuel Jean Holm scored in the third minute of stoppage time for his side on Monday, July 15.

After the game, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag didn't mince his words about his side's performance. He admitted that despite it being just pre-season, his team weren't up to the required levels, saying (via The Guardian):

“We play pre-season but at Man United the standard is you win games and definitely don’t lose. The performance is more important and the performance was below standards. We can make good on everything that was bad, but I am not that guy.
"As an individual you must make sure you are fit. I know you cannot be match fit, so we need these games. They [young players] are looking to listen and want to transfer that – it didn’t work.”

Manchester United will next face Rangers at the Murrayfield Stadium on July 20 before going on their pre-season tour to the USA.
