Manchester United plot surprise bid to hijack Liverpool's move for £34 million-rated star: Reports

Erik ten Hag's side is set to rival Liverpool in the race to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Manchester United are reportedly aiming to hijack Liverpool's alleged move to lure Giorgi Mamardashvili away from Valencia this summer.

Earlier this week, HITC reported that Mamardashvili has an agreement in principle to join the Reds in 2025. The plan is for the player to move to Bournemouth from Valencia on loan for the ongoing 2024-25 term.

Liverpool will allegedly pay £30 million to Valencia, while Bournemouth will dish out a loan fee of £4 million to Ruben Baraja's side this month.

However, according to Mirror, Manchester United could launch a move for the Georgian goalkeeper should they earn some cash this summer. The Valencia star is said to be open to a move to Erik ten Hag's outfit.

Mamardashvili, whose Valencia contract will run out in June 2027, rose to fame due to his outings for the La Liga side last campaign. The 23-year-old registered 13 clean sheets in 37 overall matches for his club.

The Dinamo Tbilisi youth product made quite a few headlines with his performances at the UEFA Euro 2024. He kept one shutout and made a staggering 30 saves in four matches for Georgia in the tournament.

Liverpool great calls out Manchester United legend Gary Neville after recent comments

Speaking recently on the Stick to Football podcast, Red Devils legend Gary Neville offered his top-four predictions for the 2024-25 Premier League campaign. The former right-back opined (h/t Yahoo! Sports):

"We have to go Arsenal and Manchester City because we all collectively agree. I do [agree about Manchester United getting in the top four]. I am not sure [on Liverpool getting top four]."

Neville, who helped United win eight Premier League titles, continued:

"Every season [I say that United will get in and the Reds will fail to finish in a top-four spot], yeah. I am quite often wrong as well. It gets played back during the season, it's quite enjoyable – I am going to go Tottenham – the surprise of the season, it can be anything. Surprise Liverpool don't finish in the top six."

Reds legend Jamie Carragher responded to Neville, elaborating:

"You are saying that to get headlines. If Manchester United don't win their first two games, everyone will be talking about [Red Devils manager Erik] ten Hag's position."

Erik ten Hag's side finished eighth with 60 points last season, while the Anfield outfit secured a third-place finish with 82 points last campaign.

Earlier this week, the Red Devils recorded a 1-0 home league win over Fulham. Their rivals beat Ipswich Town 2-0 in an away league contest.
