Erik ten Hag wants another defender amid the Chelsea star's likely exit.

Manchester United reportedly hold a genuine interest in Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah, and the English defender is being forced out of Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old center-back has been left out of the Blues squad for their pre-season of the United States.

GiveMeSport's Ben Jacobs reports that Chalobah will be sold if a fee of around £25 million is paid. He endured injury issues last season but impressed in the latter stages of the campaign, helping his boyhood club keep three clean sheets in 17 games across competitions.

Manchester United are one of several clubs monitoring Chalobah's situation. The Red Devils are looking to sign another defender after capturing the highly rated Leny Yoro, 18, from LOSC Lille.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be offloaded, leaving Erik ten Hag needing a replacement. Chalobah's ability to play right-back could intensify a potential pursuit from the Old Trafford outfit.

Chelsea's decision to omit Chalobah from their pre-season squad of the USA wasn't taken lightly. The Blues wanted a tight-knitted squad and are stacked in defense following Tosin Adarabioyo's arrival from Fulham.

Chalobah is a popular figure among fans at Stamford Bridge after rising through the west Londoners' youth system. He's made 80 appearances, winning the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

Thiago Silva played alongside Chalobah during his four-year spell at Stamford Bridge. The veteran Brazilian defender was present when the Englishman broke out in 2020-21. He hailed his former teammate when speaking to Chelsea's official website three years ago:

"He is a player despite being so young who plays like an experienced professional... Not just anybody can do this, can step up to a team like Chelsea and perform... A player like Trevoh Chalobah is the future of this club."

That's high praise from arguably one of the Blues' greatest-ever defenders. It's also an interesting insight into Chalobah's mentality and how Manchester United could be about to pursue a top talent.

Chalobah has earned plaudits for his ball-playing abilities, which may suit Erik ten Hag's Red Devils. He can move to right-back, which would help the Dutch coach as he dealt with an injury crisis in his defense last season.

The Blues defender represented England at U21 level on three occasions. He might be open to moving to ignite his senior international career.
