According to journalist Duncan Castles, Manchester United have drawn up a four-man shortlist for priority summer transfer target Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils have so far signed Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro and have been linked with a move for Ugarte.

Ugarte's valuation by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), though, has turned out to be a roadblock. In case they fail to bring the Uruguayan to Old Trafford, the Red Devils have prepared a shortlist of alternatives.

Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, previously linked with Barcelona and Arsenal, is a target. The Spaniard, though, has a €60 million (£50.6m) release clause in his contract with the Basque club, which could be an issue.

PSV's 25-year-old Joey Veerman is also an option for the Red Devils. Apart from United, Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the Netherlands international this summer.

Free agent Adrien Rabiot is also a target. Rabiot has left Juventus upon the expiration of his contract and several top European clubs have been linked with the former PSG midfielder. He could be a good free signing.

Sander Berge is also an option for Manchester United. The 26-year-old Norwegian midfielder is certainly to leave Burnley, as per the report. The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League in 2023-24.

PSG's new signing could be boost to Manchester United's Manuel Ugarte hopes

Erik ten Hag is keen to add fresh blood alongside Kobbie Mainoo in his midfield. He has identified Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte as a player who could improve the team.

The Parisians, though, want £59 million (€69.5m) for Ugarte, having bought him for £51 million (€60m) from Sporting CP a season ago. Manchester United are waiting for the Ligue 1 giants to soften their stance.

PSG, meanwhile, have completed a €50 million plus €20 million add-ons deal for Joao Neves, as per Fabrizio Romano. Renato Sanches would rejoin Benfica on loan as part of the deal.

With Neves' arrival, the Parisians could loosen their stance in selling Ugarte. At least the Red Devils would hope so.
