Manchester City are reportedly set to compete with Liverpool and Manchester United for the signing of RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons. The 21-year-old attacker is currently on loan at the German club from Paris Saint-Germain and will return to Ligue 1 in the summer of 2025.

It is a report from the Spanish outlet Fichajes, which has claimed that the Cityzens are looking to sign the Netherlands international (via CaughtOffSide). He's a versatile player who can operate on the flanks as well as playing in the attacking midfield position.

However, there are several stars competing in the midfield at the Etihad, including the likes of Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne. Meanwhile, Savinho, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, and Jeremy Doku are all contenders for minutes in wide areas.

Therefore, Simons will have to prove his worth at Manchester City to secure regular game time. Even if the Cityzens are seriously considering a move for the attacker, it will not be cheap, with the player currently valued at around €80 million.

A transfer to sides like Manchester United or Liverpool may benefit Simons as far as minutes are concerned. The Reds don't have an out-and-out number 10, and the club could be moving on from Mohamed Salah by the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has had to answer critics over his place on the Manchester United left flank. Neither Amad Diallo nor Antony have nailed down their position on the opposite side.

So far this season, Simons has made nine appearances across competitions for his current club, bagging two goals and assists each.

Liverpool and Manchester United are set to battle each other for the services of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in January. This is according to a report from Todos Fijaches, who claims that the France international could be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu with four years left on his deal (via SportsMole). The links to the Red Devils may seem rather surprising, with Erik ten Hag and Co. having brought in Manuel Ugarte only in the summer. On top of that, the Dutchman could turn to Casemiro to play the deep-lying midfield role.

However, there seems to be a requirement for a number six at Anfield, with the club failing to bring a player of this profile in the summer. Arne Slot currently uses Ryan Gravenberch in this position.
