Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United target Adrien Rabiot to strengthen their midfield once they conclude a deal to sign Martin Zubimendi. The Reds are keen on making the signings required to get their squad back to challenging for Premier League glory under Arne Slot.

Slot was named as the new Liverpool boss after Jürgen Klopp left the club and pre-season has brought about great optimism under the Dutchman. His Reds have looked good in their friendlies, recording victories against the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal during their tour of the USA.

Arne Slot identifies that his squad needs additions in certain positions, hence his sanctioning of a move for Spain international Martin Zubimendi in midfield. The former Feyenoord manager now wants the club to also sign Adrien Rabiot, as well, according to The Mirror.

Liverpool lost a midfielder in Thiago Alcantara this summer after the Spaniard decided to retire from professional football. They are also prepared to let teenage star Stefan Bajcetic leave the club on a temporary basis, creating space for two new midfield additions.

France international Rabiot is a free agent, having left Juventus after his contract expired in July. The 29-year-old played 212 games for the Bianconeri, recording 22 goals and 15 assists in his time in Italy.

Manchester United have been considering a move for Rabiot but they have their sights set on a number of other options. With the Red Devils seemingly out of the race, Liverpool are poised to snap up the midfielder for free before the transfer window shuts this month.

Liverpool trounces Sevilla as pre-season reaches conclusion

Liverpool handed a comprehensive beating to Spanish outfit Sevilla as they faced each other in a friendly at Anfield. Arne Slot's side claimed a comfortable 4-1 win over their visitors to win a fourth straight pre-season game.

Diogo Jota opened the scoring for the Reds after 30 minutes, firing home a stunning volley in front of the home crowd. Nine minutes later, their lead was doubled by Luis Diaz, who found the top corner in brilliant style. The Colombian added his second and his side's third just six minutes later as they went into the break three goals up.

Sevilla pulled one back in the 66th minute through 21-year-old striker Peque, whose curling effort beat Vitezslav Jaros in the Reds' goal. Teenage midfielder Trey Nyoni restored his side's three-goal advantage just a minute later to round off the scoring.

Slot's side put on a show in their first match under the Dutchman at Anfield. They will have a second friendly of the day against Las Palmas later as they prepare for their league opener against Ipswich Town next Saturday.
