Liverpool have reportedly decided to open contract talks with Mohamed Salah, who wants to stay at the club. The Reds, too, are said to be keen on keeping the Egyptian at the club for longer, with his current contract set to expire next summer.

As per Liverpool ECHO, Salah wants to extend his stay at the club for three main reasons. Firstly, he wants to surpass Ian Rush as the club's highest goal-scorer and also climb higher in the Premier League goalscoring charts.

Liverpool ECHO also claim that Salah's family is happy in Liverpool and thus the forward can sign a new contract with the club. The Egyptian is also not interested in moving to the Saudi Pro League despite the money on offer.

Rumors of Salah's possible departure from Anfield picked up pace after the Liverpool star told the media on Sunday, September 1 (via Sky Sports):

"I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know, it's my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it and I don't want to think about it. I feel like I'm free to play football and then we'll see what happens next year. I was coming to the game today thinking it could be the last time.
"Nobody at the club has spoken to me yet about a new contract so I just play this last season and then see at the end of the season. It's not up to me but nobody talk to me about a contract with the club. We'll see."

Salah has a year left on his contract and is yet to pen a new deal at the club.

Liverpool manager brushes aside Mohamed Salah exit talks

Liverpool manager Arne Slot brushed aside talks of Mohamed Salah's exit after their commanding win over Manchester United on Sunday. He said in the post-match press conference (via Sky Sports):

"It's a lot of 'if'. At this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well. I don't talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played. Everything that you want to see as a manager you saw in this game.
"There were difficult moments for us, United started really well but then we were disallowed a goal and there was no negative reaction. We kept on playing, scoring three, we could have scored more, two important saves from Alisson and the work rate was incredibly well without the ball and that makes it a very positive day."

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also have a year each left on their respective Liverpool contracts.
