Liverpool reject £15 million offer from Premier League side for 21-year-old star: Reports

Arne Slot is believed to be keen to keep hold of Fabio Carvalho this summer.
Arne Slot is believed to be keen to keep hold of Fabio Carvalho this summer.

Liverpool have allegedly rejected a bid of £15 million from newly promoted Premier League side Southampton for Fabio Carvalho in the ongoing transfer window.

Carvalho, who joined the Anfield side for an initial sum of £5 million from Fulham in 2022, recently returned from a fine six-month loan stint at EFL Championship outfit Hull City. He scored nine goals and provided two assists in 20 league appearances for the Tigers.

A right-footed attacking midfielder blessed with flair and vision, Carvalho has made his mark for Liverpool in their pre-season friendly clashes so far. He bagged a goal in a 2-1 win over Arsenal before netting in a 3-0 victory against Manchester United on Saturday (August 3).

Now, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Liverpool have rebuffed a bid from Southampton for Carvalho. They have no desire to send the midfielder out on loan again and would only sell him for a bid considerably higher than the Saints' £15 million offer.

Carvalho, whose current contract will expire in June 2027, is thought to be keen to remain a key player at the Reds this summer. The 21-year-old has scored three goals in 21 matches for his team so far.

Liverpool urged to offload Mohamed Salah

Speaking to talkSPORT, Rangers great Ally McCoist asserted that the Reds should think about cashing in on Mohamed Salah if the superstar is not convinced with the club's project. He said (h/t DAZN):

"You need to get a response from him and find out exactly where he is mentally, because if he's not happy, you have to cash in. It's simple. If he is not 100% committed to moving forward with the club and the new manager, then you've got to cash in now."

Sharing further thoughts on the 32-year-old forward, McCoist added:

"From Liverpool's point of view, you would hope he would say he loves where he is and can see himself at Anfield for the next two or three years. His form may have been a little bit indifferent last season, but he still scored plenty of goals. He's been one of the greatest players in the Premier League."

Last season, Salah found the back of the net 25 times and laid out 14 assists in 44 games across all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.

So far, the former Chelsea man has scored a staggering 211 goals and registered 89 assists in 349 overall appearances for Arne Slot's team.
