Liverpool are set to sell Fabio Carvalho to Brentford on a permanent deal worth up to £20 million, plus add-ons, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Carvalho has accepted the Bees' offer and is set to undergo medical tests (via A BOLA).

The Reds signed Carvalho from Fulham in May 2022 for a reported transfer fee of £5 million. While his talent was evident from the get-go, the 21-year-old struggled to adjust to Jurgen Klopp's system. It led to him being loaned to RB Leipzig and Hull City last season.

Carvalho shone with the latter, netting nine goals in 20 appearances in the Championship. He returned to Liverpool earlier this summer and further impressed during pre-season under Arne Slot's tutelage. He scored two goals from three appearances against Arsenal and Manchester United.

Despite this, the Portugal U21 international reportedly will no longer have a future at Anfield. Liverpool have enough depth down the left wing, with Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Dioga Jota, and Darwin Nunez capable of playing that role.

Carvalho made 21 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, scoring three goals.

"He’s not up to the level" - Danny Murphy believes Liverpool midfielder isn't good enough compared to Declan Rice and Rodri

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy reckons Wataru Endo isn't as good as playing the No. 6 role compared to Arsenal's Declan Rice and Manchester City's Rodri.

The Reds had a decent 2023-24 campaign, winning the Carabao Cup, and finishing third in the league behind City and Arsenal. However, one notable weakness was their midfield, particularly in the No. 6 position, which led to a total lapse of control in many games.

Wataru Endo was their only senior option to play the role with Thiago Alcantara injured for most of the season. The Japan skipper did decent in his debut season but wasn't as convincing as other top CDMs in the league.

Murphy appeared on talkSPORT, where he was asked if the Reds signing a new No. 6 was a priority. He responded (via Rousing the Kop):

“I think so. You always want good players everywhere, but yeah, I think that makes sense. Endo’s done well, but he’s not up to the level of [Declan] Rice and Rodri, when you think of the two dominant teams last year. That position is key."

He added:

“They had different players playing, Mac Allister dropped in and played it more as a technical ball player in there, but that powerhouse in the holding midfield role, the athleticism, the physicality, the ability to get about like Rice and Rodri do, yeah, I think that makes sense.”

Liverpool are yet to make a signing this summer but have been linked with a move for Real Sociedad holding midfielder Martin Zubimendi. It remains to be seen if the Euro 2024 winner opts to join the Reds.
