Liverpool plot second bid for £70 million-rated Premier League star - Reports

Feyenoord v AS Roma: Knockout Round Play-offs First Leg - UEFA Europa League 2023/24
Liverpool FC manager Arne Slot

Liverpool are reportedly plotting a second bid for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. According to Football Insider, the England international will cost the Reds about £70 million, which could be too much for the Merseyside outfit.

According to this report, Arne Slot is seriously considering bringing in a wide player to utilize Cody Gakpo in a more central role. However, he does still have sufficient options to play on the left-hand side.

The likes of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota can perform this role at Anfield should a deal for Gordon not go through. Regardless, it is claimed that Liverpool will certainly look to bring in a winger and have other alternatives lined up in the Premier League.

At the moment, Gordon has two years left on his deal at St. James' Park and a move away could depend on the player's wishes as well. With the Reds offering Champions League football next season, he may be tempted to make the switch.

Moreover, the 23-year-old would also earn himself the chance to compete for the league title. Last year, Jurgen Klopp and Co. finished third in the English top flight, nine points behind champions Manchester City.

Gordon is an exciting prospect after his performances for the Magpies in the 2023/24 campaign. He made 48 appearances across competitions for Newcastle United, bagging 12 goals and 11 assists.

However, he will have to compete with the aforementioned names for minutes on Liverpool's left flank.

Liverpool star Luis Diaz drawing interest from Barcelona for a move this summer- Reports

The reason that Liverpool could be looking at signing a new winger is probably due to the potential departure of Luis Diaz this summer. In recent weeks, the Colombia international has been linked with a move away from Anfield amid interest from Barcelona.

Certain reports further claim that the Catalan side are serious about this transfer, even looking to move on Raphinha to raise funds to bring Diaz to Camp Nou (via Liverpool.com). Diaz still has three years left on his current contract, and a move for him will cost a fair bit.

He joined the Reds in January 2022 from Porto for a reported £49 million. To date, Diaz has made 98 appearances across competitions for his current employers, bagging 24 goals and 13 assists.

He's managed to win the FA Cup once and the Carabao Cup on two occasions in Merseyside.
