Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly interested in the services of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. They will look to sign him in next summer's transfer window, according to Goal.com.

The 20-year-old has captured the attention of top Premier League clubs with his impressive performances. He joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January earlier this year for £22 million.

Manchester City’s interest in Wharton is driven by potential uncertainties surrounding Rodri’s future, according to Daily Mail. Since Rodri’s arrival from Atletico Madrid in 2019, he has been a cornerstone of City’s midfield, significantly contributing to their domestic and European triumphs. However, speculation about a possible move to Real Madrid could leave a void in City’s midfield, prompting Pep Guardiola to seek a capable replacement.

On the other hand, Goal reported Liverpool have also set its sights on Wharton. The club have been actively searching for midfield reinforcements in recent transfer windows, with mixed results. After Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi snubbed the Merseyside club, Wharton has emerged as a viable alternative to enhance their midfield depth.

Wharton’s current contract with Palace extends until 2029, signaling that any potential transfer would require a significant financial commitment. Under the guidance of Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park, the Englishman has gone from strength to strength. He also earned himself a spot in the nation's Euro 2024 squad but didn't make an appearance.

However, if the performances continue, the interest from the cash-rich clubs will soon intensify.

"Liverpool can absolutely challenge Arsenal and Manchester City this season" - Michael Owen

Liverpool showcased their potential to vie for the Premier League title with an emphatic 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 1. Under the guidance of Arne Slot, the Reds delivered a remarkable performance. Luis Diaz scored twice in the first half due to errors from United’s Casemiro, and Mohamed Salah added a third in the second half.

The result marks the Merseysiders' third consecutive victory of the season. Alongside Manchester City, they are the only team to win their first three PRemier League matches. Meanwhile, Arsenal experienced their first setback, drawing 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium.

Although the season is still young, the swift adaptation to Slot’s management suggests they could be a serious contender for the Premier League title. In an interview with TVSporten (via Goal.com), club legend Michael Owen praised Pool’s early season form, saying:

"Liverpool can absolutely challenge Arsenal and Manchester City this season, but it’s important not to get carried away just yet. Reflecting on past managers like Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, it’s natural to wonder how new leadership would impact those clubs."
"What stands out is that Arne Slot has seamlessly integrated himself into Liverpool’s setup. There have been no major departures or high-profile arrivals, creating a smooth transition. While there are tougher tests ahead, Liverpool fans should be encouraged by the continuity and steady progress under Slot’s stewardship," the former English forward added.

The Merseysiders will next face Nottingham Forest at Anfield after the international break on September 14.
