Liverpool in line to receive £9m if former player join PL rivals this summer - Reports

Liverpool are in line to receive approximately £9 million if their former player Dominic Solanke joins their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The Bournemouth striker has made a name for himself with his impressive performances last season, which saw him score 19 league goals in 38 games.

The striker's quality hasn't been ignored by bigger clubs in England, with Tottenham Hotspur taking notice. If they do opt to meet Bournemouth for negotiations regarding Solanke, he is expected to cost £65 million - his release clause for specific clubs like Spurs.

If this release clause is paid, Liverpool will receive £9 million, having sold him to Bournemouth with a sell-on clause of 20% in January 2019 (via TBR Football). Notably, the striker was unable to find playing time at Anfield, leaving for the Cherries in 2019 for a deal worth £19 million. It also included the sell-on clause, alongside other add-ons.

It is worth noting that Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur could potentially come to an agreement that sets the release clause aside. However, even if Solanke moves for lower than the stipulated £65 million, Liverpool will still receive a transfer boost.

Liverpool may get money from a potential Solanke deal, but they have yet to make any new signings of their own this summer. There is also talk about potentially expiring contracts, with players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah nearing the end of their deals at Anfield.

Reports have revealed (via TeamTalk) that the Reds will not offer massive contracts to Salah and Van Dijk, due to their ages. However, this may not exactly bode well with the duo, who could well opt to continue their careers elsewhere once their contracts expire.

Pundit Ally McCoist has told Reds boss Arne Slot how to determine if it is better to keep Salah or sell the forward now and get a transfer fund boost. He said on talkSPORT (via TeamTalk):

“If I was Arne Slot, I would sit Salah down and figure out what’s going on in his head and whether he is happy at Liverpool. You need to get a response from him and find out exactly where he is mentally, because if he’s not happy, you have to cash in. It’s simple.

“If he is not 100 per cent committed to moving forward with the club and the new manager, then you’ve got to cash in now... But they’ll know within 90 seconds of the conversation with Salah whether they should cash in on him or not.”

It is uncertain if the Reds would be willing to let go of Mohamed Salah, who has been one of the best players in the club's history. He's registered 211 goals and 89 assists in 349 games since arriving from AS Roma in 2017. He has been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
