Jurgen Klopp has reportedly snubbed the opportunity to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager as the former Liverpool boss remains committed to taking a year off. The legendary German coach has been touted as an option to become the new Three Lions coach.

Sky Germany reports that Klopp is determined to take a one-year break from football after leaving Anfield. He was seemingly on the FA's list of candidates to succeed Southgate after the latter stepped down following defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Klopp became one of English football's most popular coaches during his nine-year reign at Liverpool. He was a massive success in Merseyside, guiding the Reds to seven major trophies, including the Premier League title.

The 57-year-old oversaw 304 wins in 489 games in charge at Anfield. His heavy metal brand of football was a massive hit and may have suited international football.

Southgate's resignation has put the FA in the managerial market, but Klopp won't be an option. Other options include former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, Newcastle United's Eddie Howe, and England U21 coach Lee Carsley.

England reached the final of Euro 2024 but lost 2-1 to Spain in Berlin last Sunday (July 14). Southgate stepped down as manager the following day, thanking fans for eight memorable years.

Liverpool icon Michael Owen thinks an English coach should succeed Gareth Southgate as England boss

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen was adamant that Southgate's replacement should be English. The iconic former Three Lions striker suggested Howe or Potter as his two favorites for the role, writing on X:

"I would love Eddie Howe as England manager but he’s already in a top job. I’d be right behind The FA appointing Graham Potter too. Whatever we do, I’m of the opinion that the England manager should be English."

Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has said he expects Howe to remain at St James' Park. He signed a multi-year contract with the Magpies last summer, and his club will fight to keep hold of him if an approach is made, per Sky Sports' Keith Downie.

Potter is out of a job after being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023. He could be the easiest option for those named candidates, given he's not under contract with any club or nation.

Another English coach who could be a contender is Three Lions' U21 manager Lee Carsley. He's impressed at youth level by implementing an exciting attacking philosophy.
