Liverpool interested in signing 22-year-old Bundesliga youngster

Liverpool are reportedly interested in a move for SC Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl who has been quite impressive in Bundesliga. According to reputed German journalist Christian Falk via Caught Offside, the Reds are huge admirers of the 22-year-old.

As per Falk, Liverpool scouts have watched the versatile midfielder in action several times in recent weeks. The Merseyside giants could launch a move for the Germany under-21 international. Merlin Rohl is capable of playing either as a No. 10 or a No. 8 and can also play on the flanks. With a big frame of 6 ft 3 in, he is quite big and strong physically and is also quite proficient technically.

Rohl came through the youth ranks of FC Ingolstadt 04 and joined SC Freiburg in 2022 where he has made his name. The midfielder has made 40 appearances for the Bundesliga side so far contributing with three goals and five assists.

As per Caught Offside, Freiburg are keeping on keeping Rohl in the long-term and tied him down with a new deal recently. They are understood to be under no pressure to sell their prized asset and could demand a big fee.

Liverpool are a bit light in the middle of the park and could do with the addition of a gifted youngster like Rohl. They were strongly linked with Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi last summer and were close to landing the Spaniard before he snubbed the move.

Liverpool legend heaps praise on the Reds' new signing

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has lavished praise on the Reds' summer signing Federico Chiesa. The Italy international made his first start for the Merseysiders in their 5-1 win against West Ham United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, September 25.

Following the game, Michael Owen claimed that Chiesa is a good addition to his former club and offers them a solid rotational option. The former England international said, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo:

"I like him as a player, I think he's got a lot of class. He's obviously experienced as well and I think he's a good player to bring in to bolster the squad. If he does really well, then of course he's going to hold a place down, but as things start at the early stage of the season... I would suggest that he will be more of an impact player and he's going to have to play his way into the team."

The former Manchester United striker added:

"However, as I say he's got class... he's got experience too, he's obviously a talented lad, and speaks the language, so hopefully he settles in pretty well. I think it's a really good buy.
"Liverpool have almost utilised the club, the badge, the history, and everything else to get somebody who might be worth a little bit more than they've paid. I think it's been a good signing, but again time will tell."

Liverpool landed an arguable bargain in Chiesa as they got him for just £12.5 million from Juventus. He was a pivotal member of Italy's Euro 2020 winning squad as well as for the Old Lady before seeing his stock fall due to injury problems.
