Liverpool interested in French left-back as they look to bolster squad – Reports

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Stade Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert. The Reds are yet to make a single signing in the current transfer window. even though they have been linked to a few players.

According to French sports outlet L’Equipe, Liverpool are among the host of Premier League clubs looking to sign Adrien Truffert. Other Premier League clubs that are interested in the left-back are Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Nottingham Forest. Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in the player.

Adrien Truffert is a product of Stade Rennes Academy and was part of the France national team that won silver in the just-concluded Olympics. He has been a revelation for Rennes since he broke into the club’s senior team in 2020, scoring six goals and providing 21 assists in 156 outings across competitions.

Given that he has only two years remaining on his contract, he is unlikely to command a huge transfer fee, with his current market value €18 million. It remains to be seen if Arne Slot considers him a priority, as he would have to compete with Kostas Tsimikas and Andrew Robertson should Liverpool sign him.

Arne Slot says Liverpool are still seeking new signings before the transfer window closes

Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed that the club is still poised to bolster the squad before the end of the transfer window. The Reds missed out on their efforts to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, as the Spaniard chose to stay at Erreala after he was offered a new contract with higher wages.

The Dutch manager believes that his squad is strong enough while also highlighting the desire of the club’s board to sign new players. He told BBC:

"I've said many times already that our squad is really strong and it's not so easy to find players who can help us or even strengthen the squad. Zubimendi was one of them to be fair, but he decided not to come. We go forward with the ones we have."

"In the background, [sporting director] Richard [Hughes] is trying to strengthen the squad as he can but, unfortunately, Zubimendi decided not to come. He did every effort to bring him in but, if a player decides not to come, then it's obvious he's not coming."

He added:

“We are always talking about transfers but also a very positive thing that we kept our players and they are in a good place. Jurgen left the team in a good place and we are trying to build from there."

Slot, however, wasn’t of the opinion that simply adding new players to a team would necessarily make the team stronger. Liverpool will kick off their 2024–25 season against newly promoted Ipswich Town today (August 17).
