Liverpool have reportedly identified three players as potential replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been strongly linked with an exit from Anfield this summer. The 26-year-old notably started his career with the Merseyside giants as a youngster, breaking into the first team at the age of 18.
Under Jurgen Klopp, he developed into one of the Reds' most important players and arguably the best full-back in the world. Having won eight trophies at Liverpool, he has also risen through the leadership ranks and is the club's vice-captain. However, Alexander-Arnold's future at the club looks uncertain, with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2025.
Alexander-Arnold is yet to agree to an extension with the Reds with CaughtOffside claiming that contract talks between the two parties have stalled.
With Real Madrid reportedly on the prowl to sign Alexander-Arnold as a free agent next summer, the Reds are said to have their sights set on three players who could replace him. According to CaughtOffside, they are contemplating moves for Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong, Monaco's Vanderson, and Fiorentina's Michael Kayode.
Frimpong will certainly be at the top of the list, following the brilliant season the 23-year-old wing-back enjoyed at Leverkusen. He helped the team break Bayern Munich's monopoly and win the Bundesliga with nine goals and seven assists in 31 league games. They also won the DFB Pokal, as Frimpong scored twice and provided three assists in six games.
Liverpool contract negotiations will not be made public: Trent Alexander-Arnold
In an interview last month, Trent Alexander-Arnold made it clear that details about his ongoing negotiations with Liverpool will remain private. Much has been said regarding his uncertain future, but he refused to disclose his long-term plans.
However, he noted that he would remain a Liverpool player this season, telling BBC:
"I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say."
Trent Alexander-Arnold added:
"I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public - and this one won't be either."
The 26-year-old also spoke about his intention to win trophies, something that Real Madrid have notably had more success doing in recent years:
"The most important thing is trophies if I'm honest. I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. If you have a personality that is an elite athlete who will do anything to win, then that is what drives them."
Time will tell if Trent Alexander-Arnold will continue his career at Anfield or leave, potentially for Spanish capital.
