Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for former Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernández Carreras but could face competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid. As claimed by Spanish media outlet AS, the Reds are closely monitoring the Spaniard's progress at Benfica as they eye a long-term successor to Andrew Robertson.

Alvaro Fernández Carreras, known more as Alvaro Carreras, has done well at Benfica since initially joining the Portuguese giants on loan in January 2024. The Eagles decided in favor of making his loan move from Manchester United permanent this summer and their decision has worked wonders.

Carreras only cost Benfica around a reported €6 million but his value has grown significantly since. Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Barcelona have all reportedly taken notice of the 21-year-old's exploits at the Estadio da Luz.

The left-back has made 25 appearances across competitions for Benfica, registering one goal and one assist. The full-back, blessed with a frame of 6 ft 1 in, has impressed at both ends of the pitch.

Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Carreras intending to bring in a long-term replacement for Andrew Robertson. The Scot, aged 30, has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League since moving to Anfield from Hull City in 2017.

Real Madrid also reportedly admire Carreras, who was in their youth ranks until 2020. Barcelona are also understood to be keeping track of the former Manchester United youngster.

Barcelona and Real Madrid to face competition from PL side for Liverpool star's signature

Real Madrid and Barcelona could reportedly face competition from Manchester City for the signature of Liverpool superstar Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds vice-captain's future has been the subject of speculation owing to his contract situation at Anfield.

The 26-year-old's current deal with his boyhood club expires next summer and there hasn't been much development in contract renewal. Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of the creative full-back and have been named as the favorite to land the Englishman.

Barcelona have also been credited with interest in the full-back but as per Spanish outlet El Nacional, Manchester City are also ready to explore the possibility of landing their rivals' star player. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been at Liverpool since he was six years of age and has already won everything at his boyhood club.

The gifted right-back has made 319 appearances for the Merseyside giants to date scoring 19 times while producing 83 assists. He has won eight trophies during his time at Anfield including one Premier League and one Champions League.
