Hansi Flick threatens Barcelona defender, tells him he won’t be registered for any competition if he doesn’t leave: Reports

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has reportedly threatened club defender Clement Lenglet, who has fallen heavily down the pecking order at Camp Nou. The French defender has been warned that he won't be registered for any competition, with the door now open for him to find another club.

Lenglet spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he played 25 games across all competitions. However, the Premier League club don't seem interested in retaining his services, and he has returned for pre-season at the Blaugrana training grounds.

However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are now searching for a new club for Lenglet. The 29-year-old isn't in Hansi Flick's plans for the next season, especially with the emergence of young and able defenders like Pau Cubarsi and Mikayil Faye.

Hansi Flick has now warned Lenglet that he will not be allowed to play for the club in any competition, according to a report from El Nacional. The French defender won't even feature in any pre-season friendly, with the German manager directly asking him to leave the club.

However, while Lenglet already has interested clubs contemplating putting an offer through to Barca, he might fight the decision to leave the club by force. This is because he currently enjoys a wage of €16 million every year. Hence, he would rather run down his contract, which expires in 2026.

If he opts to stay at Barcelona, Flick has promised not to play the defender, instead opting to lump him in the stands. It is unlikely that Lenglet will find a similar salary at another club, so time will tell what the defender eventually decides to do.

Paris Saint-Germain star speaks on Barcelona exit

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Xavi Simons has spoken about his exit from Barcelona, noting that he will reveal all that happened one day. He reportedly cried when he had to leave, and he has now been linked to a potential return to Camp Nou.

Simons joined Barcelona's youth system in 2010 before leaving in 2018 for PSG U19. When recently asked about the events that led to his exit from the Catalan giants, he said (via Barca Blaugranes):

“People may have an opinion that they have been told. What I can say is that everything they say is not true. One day I will talk about everything that happened... People can talk and say what they want. It doesn’t matter to me. I know the dreams I have and I’m going to achieve them..."

The midfielder has already been linked to a move away from French giants PSG, and his future currently seems clouded. In the meantime, he will be recuperating after the Netherlands got knocked out of EURO 2024.
