Newly-appointed Barcelona manager Hansi Flick reportedly wants to keep Oriol Romeu at the club next season. As claimed by Barca Universal on X (formerly Twitter), the German manager values the Spanish midfielder's physical characteristics.
The report claims Flick has approved the Blaugrana to keep the Spaniard at Camp Nou. It has further been claimed that the Catalan giants will only part ways with the former Chelsea and Southampton midfielder for a reasonable price.
Romeu rejoined the Blaugrana last summer in a deal worth around €3.4 million from Girona, having formerly come through the club's youth ranks. However, he was only a bit-part player under Xavi Hernandez. He played only 1435 minutes of football across 37 appearances in all competitions.
Upon joining Barca last summer, Xavi initially gave Romeu a starting berth but his game time reduced as the season went on. It was strongly reported that the 32-year-old would be on his way out of the club in the summer but he now looks destined to stay.
Hansi Flick reportedly admires the physicality Romeu offers and has therefore decided to keep the midfielder. However, they could change their mind should a reasonable offer be tabled.

Barcelona's newly-appointed manager Hansi Flick has warned Clement Lenglet that he won't be registered if he refuses to leave this summer. The Frenchman has fallen in the pecking order at Camp Nou and the Catalan giants are desperately looking to sell the 29-year-old.
Lenglet spent the last season on loan at Aston Villa and featured 25 times for the Lions. However, the Midlands club have no interest in keeping the Barcelona defender next season.
Barcelona are believed to be actively looking for buyers for the Frenchman following the emergence of young players like Pau Cubarsi and Mikayil Faye. Flick has warned the former Sevilla stopper that he won't be registered at all if he does not accept a move.
Lenglet is on big wages at Camp Nou and offloading him would mean that Barca would save €16 million every year. Contracted at the club until 2026, the player enjoys an upper hand over the club.
