Former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is set to become Red Bull's new Global Head of Soccer. His role will involve all football clubs in the Red Bull portfolio.

The 57-year-old German was on a self-imposed sabbatical after nine successful years at Premier League side Liverpool. Klopp will begin his new role from January 1, 2025.

The clubs under the Red Bull umbrella include RB Salzburg, RB Leipzig, MLS club New York Red Bulls, and Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil Serie A.

Red Bull made the official announcement on their website, highlighting Klopp's responsibilities. It clarified that he will not be involved in any of the club's daily operations.

Klopp's responsibilities will include providing direction and vision in advancing the Red Bull philosophy and working closely with individual clubs' sporting directors. In addition to this, the former Liverpool boss will also be required to tap into his global network of scouts and coaches to aid the global scouting operation and train and develop coaches.

According to Sky Sports, a clause in his agreement with Red Bull allows him to leave to become the head coach of the German national team should the position become available.

Former Liverpool boss expresses his excitement at the global role

Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season. During his stint with the Anfield club, he ended the club's 3-decade wait for the Premier League title while also winning the Champions League. He also won the Club World Cup, FA Cup, and League Cup during nine years in charge.

The charismatic German spoke about his excitement at returning to the sport, albeit in a different role.

“After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this. The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not," he said in the official Red Bull statement.
“By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal. There are many ways that we can do this from using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learning from other sports and other industries," he added.

While Jurgen Klopp has proven his credentials as a manager at all of his clubs - Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool, it remains to be seen how the German performs in a larger role.
