European giants slap £25 million price tag on 6-foot-5 defender linked with Liverpool: Reports

Arne Slot's side are keen to bolster their defence this summer.

Juventus have slapped a price tag of £25 million on Dean Huijsen, who has lately attracted interest from Premier League giants Liverpool.

The Reds, who will begin a new era under head coach Arne Slot, are said to be in search of a new centre-back. They lost Joel Matip at the end of his deal last month and were recently beaten by Manchester United in the race to snap up highly rated defender Leny Yoro.

Over the last couple of months, the Merseyside club has been linked with a host of young defenders. They are reportedly keeping tabs on the likes of Goncalo Inacio, Antonio Silva, Piero Hincapie, and Huijsen.

Now, according to Football Insider, Juventus are willing to part with Huijsen for the right price in the summer transfer window. The Bianconeri are said to be hoping for a sum between £20 million and £25 million.

Huijsen, whose Juventus contract is set to expire in June 2028, rose to fame owing to his fine outings last campaign. The 19-year-old Spaniard made his debut for his club in a 1-0 win over AC Milan last October.

Earlier this January, Huijsen secured a six-month temporary move to AS Roma. He helped them finish sixth in the 2023-24 Serie A standings and bagged two goals in 14 games across competitions along the way.

Should Huijsen join Liverpool this summer, he would emerge as a fringe option for them. The 6-foot-5 defender would provide competition to Jarell Quansah and also fill in as a defensive midfielder if required.

Michael Owen shares fears about Liverpool boss Arne Slot ahead of upcoming season

During a chat with Gambling Zone, ex-Liverpool attacker Michael Owen expressed his apprehensions about Arne Slot's appointment as the Anfield side's head coach. He said (h/t The Echo):

"I fear it's a possibility for Liverpool [to have a similar decline as Manchester United when they hired David Moyes], but I hope it's not and by the time the season kicks off, everyone will be full of optimism again with a new manager, a new way of playing perhaps and signings, but I don't think there will be wholesale changes. I don't think he plays in a different way to how [the Reds] do at the moment."

Slot, who joined the Reds earlier this May, helped Feyenoord register 97 wins and just 24 losses in 148 overall outings before leaving them.

The Dutchman helped Feyenoord lift the Eredivisie title in 2023.
