Chelsea have reportedly submitted a €20 million bid to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen in the summer transfer window. The news comes from Fabrizio Romano, who provided an update on the situation on his X account (formerly Twitter).

The Blues are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper, with none of the current choices making sure of their position between the sticks. During the 2023/24 season, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic shared the responsibilities in goal.

However, neither proved to be overly convincing, which has seemingly prompted new boss Enzo Maresca to look at options elsewhere.

Romano wrote on X:

"Chelsea send first bid in the region of €20m to Villarreal for Filip Jorgensen!"
"It follows talks on player side as revealed earlier this week; he's on the list as potential new GK for Maresca. Jorgensen keen on the move."

Most importantly, Romano reported that the player himself is willing to make the move to Stamford Bridge. This would earn him the chance to play in the Premier League, widely considered the best league in Europe.

However, the west Londoners do not have Champions League football to offer after they finished sixth in the English top flight last year. The Danish goalkeeper is contracted with his current Spanish employers till the summer of 2029.

To date, the 22-year-old has made 44 appearances across competitions for Villarreal, keeping seven clean sheets in the process. His side finished eighth in La Liga in the 2023/24 campaign.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's future is in the air, with a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge. The Spain international is surplus to requirements in west London and has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia.

However, the 29-year-old is seemingly holding out for a move to Real Madrid, where he completed a loan spell last season.

About this, journalist Simon Phillips wrote (via The Chelsea Chronicle):

"Kepa Arrizabalaga rejected a move to Saudi because at this moment he is holding out for a move to Real Madrid- that is where he ideally wants to go."

Despite Arrizabalaga's wishes, it's unlikely he will be the first choice at the Santiago Bernabeu. Even with Thibaut Courtois injured last season, he lost his starting place to Andriy Lunin and eventually started 13 league matches in the season.

For the Blues, the Spaniard has made 163 appearances across competitions, keeping 59 clean sheets.
